ABOUT
To establish a wider crime prevention role by involving voluntary organisations in which crime in local communities can be reduced.
- engage with the Community Safety Partnership CSP & Police and Crime Commissioner PCC? in Community safety priorities (Crime and Disorder Act 1998)
- to work at strategic level and engage with Community Safety Partnership CSP and the Police Crime Commissioner PCC and other local community safety commissioners to promote the role of the Voluntary Community -VCSE sector in the local community initiatives.
- To highlight the community safety concerns of VCSE organisations and the people we work with in-order to influence the decisions and agendas set by PCC to ensure they are reflective of local needs.
BACKGROUND
Building Safer Communities Forum was launched on Thursday, 24th October 2024 in Hull at the Holiday Inn Hotel by representatives of Voluntary and community sector, Grassroot groups, Service Providers and statutory bodies.
This programme was developed between 2016 -2019 under the Hull City Council Leadership Board, that run the Voluntary Community Sector Liaison Group. Participating members were from the Hull City Council Community Safety Partnership CSP, Voluntary and Community Sector and the Humberside Police.
MISSION/ROLE OF THE FORUM
Building Safer Communities Forum will improve engagement between the Voluntary and Community Sector and the Public Sector, CSP, Police, Probation, NHS and Fire Services.
The Forum will provide an arena for discussion and debate and have voice and influence within the strategic decision making partnerships.
The Forum and its VCSE members are committed to developing and maintaining services to support prevention and intervention. We will raise the profile of the VCS and highlight areas of expertise and provision.
Members and representatives will bring knowledge, skills and expertise to the Forum gained through working with the Voluntary and Community Sector and the diverse range of communities within it.
The Forum aims to bring together VCS organisations, groups and interested individuals with an interest in the following areas:
- Developing effective and joined Up communication channels with the Voluntary &Statutory sector on Community Safety Matters
- Co-existence and Harmonious relations for Safer neighbourhoods
- Youth provision
- Community Development & Events services
- Domestic violence, sexual abuse
- Drugs and Alcohol Services
- Anti-social behaviour, hate & Race crimes
- Education & Training
GOVERNANCE
Formal structure will be discussed in our next Forum meeting and has to be kept as simple as possible
We are in the process of forming a Working Group that will be responsible for developing the forum’s activities. The group will consist of member organisations and community representatives.
FORUM SUB-GROUPS
Members interested in particular areas can form specialist
task groups subject to approval from the Forum Working Group.
